Sandra Newman holds a Master’s Degree in Education and for
eighteen years taught Fashion Art on the college level in Boston,
Massachusetts. Originally from Island Falls, Maine, Sandy’s
passion for skiing developed as a little girl skiing Maine’s
ski areas: May Mountain, Sugarloaf and Squaw. It was while teaching
skiing for Taos Ski Valley’s Children’s Ski School in
Taos, New Mexico that "Sam," her skiing nick-name, discovered
her tale of Scooter, the magical Purple Mogul Mouse who causes such
havoc on ski hills, believable. Understanding learning to ski can
be a very scary experience for children and/or adults, especially
when bumps or moguls are seen and tried for the first time, she
started to tell her magical tale. It was at Taos Ski Valley she
met the children who insisted the tale of Scooter, the Purple Mogul
Mouse become a book because they want to see the movie.

Dedication:
I
would especially like to dedicate this book to my very special friend,
Millie Plouffe, without her continuous support and enthusiasm, this
book would still be just a tale to tell. And to all my little skier
friends at Taos Ski Valley who insisted, “Sam, write it down.”
To my parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ray C. Newman, thank you for encouraging
me to reach for the stars.
